Volleyball Recap: Ferndale Comes Up Short

If Ferndale was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Turkeyfoot Valley Area on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Yellow Jackets fell just short of the Glendale Vikings by a score of 3-2 on Monday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in September.

Ferndale wouldn't go down easily and took Glendale into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 20-25, 25-15, 25-20, 23-25, 16-14.

Ferndale's offense was headlined by Caitlyn McKendree and Olivia Tallari, who picked up seven kills apiece. They got some help from Lydia Hyland and her 25 assists. Finally, Bailey Moschgat kept Ferndale's defense grounded, leading the team with five blocks.

Leading Glendale to victory were Rachel McClellan and Olivia Frank. McClellan had 28 kills, 14 digs, and four aces, while Frank had 23 digs and 14 kills. McClellan has been hot, having posted seven or more kills the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Matish, who had 20 assists and 13 digs.

Ferndale has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-17-1 record this season. As for Glendale, their victory ended a four-match drought on the road and puts them at 13-13-1.

Ferndale didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 loss against Conemaugh Valley on the 15th. As for Glendale, they have also already played their next match, a 3-0 win against Curwensville on the 14th.
