Softball Recap: Duanesburg Makes It Five in a Row at Home

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Galway, Duanesburg was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Mayfield Panthers, sneaking past 4-2. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Genevieve Rickert spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Gabby DeLeon, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Arianna Nicolella, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs.

Duanesburg's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Mayfield, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Looking ahead, Duanesburg is taking a road trip to challenge Canajoharie at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Mayfield, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Amsterdam at 10:00 a.m.
