Basketball Recap: Smoky Hill Takes a Loss

Smoky Hill came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They were outmatched by the Grandview Wolves and fell 65-15. The Buffaloes were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-2.

Yamani Perez was Smoky Hill's leading scorer, having posted four points.

Sienna Betts continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Grandview, dropping a double-double on 27 points and 23 boards. Betts has been hot for a while, having posted nine or more rebounds the last 39 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Leiava Holliman, who went 7 for 11 on her way to 16 points.

Smoky Hill has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season. As for Grandview, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 16-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Smoky Hill will welcome Overland at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Smoky Hill is facing Overland at the right time seeing as Overland is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Grandview, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Cherry Creek at 5:30 p.m. Grandview is on a 14-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), Cherry Creek a six-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
