Baseball Recap: Eastlake Snags Sixth Win in Last Seven Games

It's playoff time, and Eastlake had no trouble coming through when it counted. They were the clear victors by an 11-3 margin over the San Marcos Knights on Saturday. The game was the first time the Titans have beaten the Knights on their field since June 17, 2021.

Eastlake got a great performance from Beau Covell as he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). Covell has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Angel Laya, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Hamza Hatahet, who went 3-for-4 with three runs.

Eastlake is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-9-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for San Marcos, their defeat dropped their record down to 20-8-1.

Coming up, Eastlake will venture away from home to square off against Patrick Henry at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Titans 2.5, the Patriots 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. San Marcos does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
