Baseball Recap: Gateway Gets the Win

Gateway hadn't done well against Lincoln recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Gateway blew past Lincoln 19-2. This was payback for the Olympians, who suffered a 7-4 loss the last time these two teams met.

Heber Almeida was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Almeida was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Mervin Loya was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Nolan Vazquez was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Gateway's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Lincoln, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.

Gateway has already played their next contest, a 14-5 loss against Northglenn on the 18th. As for Lincoln, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 13-3 win against Thornton on the 19th.
