Basketball Game Preview: West Wendover Wolverines vs. Yerington Lions

The West Wendover Wolverines will head out on the road to square off against the Yerington Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

Last Saturday, West Wendover was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 45-41 to Pershing County. The loss continues a trend for the Wolverines in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now lost six in a row.

West Wendover might have lost, but man, Shay Neaman was a machine: she posted 22 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave Neaman a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anaya Hernandez, who had four points in addition to nine boards and six steals.

Even though they lost, West Wendover smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Yerington waltzed into their match on Saturday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They blew past the Bighorns 47-23. The Lions pushed the score to 39-12 by the end of the third, a deficit the Bighorns cut but never quite recovered from.

Yerington's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-7. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 25.4 points per game. As for West Wendover, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-8.

West Wendover came up short against Yerington in their previous matchup last Friday, falling 49-40. Can West Wendover avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
