Softball Recap: Vallivue Falcons vs. Bishop Kelly Knights

Vallivue won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Friday. They suffered a tough 20-6 loss at the hands of the Bishop Kelly Knights. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Vallivue of the 15-5 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2023.

Kenley Leuthold and Journey Engle stepped up to the plate in a big way. Leuthold went 2-for-2 with three RBI, while Engle scored two runs while going 1-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Evonny Gonzales, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

On Bishop Kelly's side, Bella Rausch made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. Rausch has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive pitching appearances. Another player making a difference was Olivia Watt, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

Vallivue's loss dropped their record down to 9-11. As for Bishop Kelly, the victory was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-2.
