Baseball Recap: Middle Creek Comes Up Short

Middle Creek fell victim to Holly Springs and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They fell just short of the Holly Springs Golden Hawks by a score of 1-0. The game marked the first time this year in which the Mustangs were not able to get on the board.

Ryan Morris was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 7.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Caden Miner made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits.

This is the second loss in a row for Middle Creek and nudges their season record down to 6-3. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only 1.5 runs. As for Holly Springs, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

While Middle Creek had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
