Preview: McLane Highlanders vs. Sunnyside Wildcats
McLane has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on The Sunnyside Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. McLane will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last.
Last Friday, McLane got themselves on the board against Madera South, but Madera South never followed suit. They claimed a resounding 49-0 victory over the Stallions at home. The result was nothing new for McLane, who have now won five contests by 22 points or more so far this season.
Noah Zamora was the offensive standout of the matchup as he threw for 133 yards and three touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes. TJ McMillan III made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Meanwhile, Sunnyside had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32.6 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 60-41 victory over Torres. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Their wins bumped McLane to 6-2 and Sunnyside to 7-1.
McLane took a serious blow against Sunnyside when the teams last played back in October of 2022, falling 36-6. Can McLane avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
