Basketball Recap: Lakeland Starts Season with Loss on the Road

Lakeland had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They took a 60-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Ardsley Panthers on Wednesday. The Hornets' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it five in a row dating back to last season.

Ardsley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Iva Corluka, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 16 boards. Corluka is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last five games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Bortstein, who posted 15 points in addition to seven assists and five boards.

Ardsley's victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0.

Lakeland will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Riverside at 4:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025. As for Ardsley, they will face off against Pleasantville at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
