Baseball Recap: St. Mary Catholic Central's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

St. Mary Catholic Central dropped their record down to 11-3-1 on Thursday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They lost 9-1 to the Greenhills Gryphons. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Falcons/Kestrels have suffered since May 22, 2024.

As for Greenhills, they are on a roll lately: they've won 17 of their last 19 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 27-6 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 games by six runs or more this season.

For Greenhills' part, Josh Dorfman made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Dorfman has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Fran Love and Ethan Berry did most of the damage at the plate: Love went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Berry went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most stolen bases Love has posted over his last 11 contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Bowman, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Mary Catholic Central will host Clinton at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. As for Greenhills, they will be playing at home against Cardinal Mooney Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
