Basketball Recap: Magnolia Heights Comes Up Short

Magnolia Heights was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They lost 46-24 to the Starkville Academy Volunteers. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Chiefs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 36-24 back in December of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Starkville Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Raylee Jones, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 18 rebounds. Jones is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last five games she's played. Kate Couvillion was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Magnolia Heights' loss dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Starkville Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.

Magnolia Heights will square off against Pillow Academy at 6:30 p.m. on January 24th. As for Starkville Academy, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 38-15 defeat against Jackson Academy on the 18th.
