Springfield Township is a perfect 3-0 against Lower Moreland since May of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lower Moreland). Everything went their way against Cheltenham on Tuesday as they made off with a 13-2 victory. The win continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won six in a row.
Maddie Menchhofer and Izzy O'Brien made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Menchhofer struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, O'Brien pitched two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five). At bat, Menchhofer went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while O'Brien went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. O'Brien is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Molly Weber, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Annika Swanson, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Lower Moreland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Springfield Township's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Lower Moreland, their victory bumped their record up to 5-8.
Springfield Township was able to grind out a solid win over Lower Moreland in their previous meeting back in March, winning 6-2. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
