Baseball Recap: Fort Thomas Comes Up Short

Fort Thomas extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 3-6. They came up short against the Duncan Wildkats, falling 9-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildkats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-5 back in March.

As for Duncan, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-4. The result was nothing new for the Wildkats, who have now won eight matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

For Duncan's part, Taygan Jensen was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Those 14 strikeouts gave Jensen a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played.

In other batting news, Ethan Hernandez was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Dayton Penry, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

Coming up, Fort Thomas will square off against Maryvale Prep at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. The Matador have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.67 runs per game on average), something the Apaches will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Duncan, they will take on Patagonia at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
