Basketball Recap: Knightdale Drops Season-High Score on Wakefield

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Knightdale). They walked away with a 76-66 win over the Wakefield Wolverines on Tuesday. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th, while the Wolverines are ranked 200th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Knightdale's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Isaiah Green led the charge by going 7-for-14 on his way to 17 points along with seven steals and six assists. Sam Thomas was another key player, going 8-for-13 to rack up 23 points and five assists.

Despite the defeat, Wakefield saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Avery Hicks posted 27 points and eight rebounds. What's more, Hicks also racked up three assists, the most he's had since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Dylan Goodknecht, who went 5-for-7 en route to 14 points and eight boards.

Knightdale has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.7 points over those games. As for Wakefield, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 10-13.

Coming up, Knightdale will welcome Millbrook at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Millbrook comes in on three and Knightdale on seven. As for Wakefield, they are taking a road trip to square off against Heritage at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Wakefield is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57 points per game this season.
