Baseball Game Preview: Ellicott Thunderhawks vs. Buena Vista Demons

Ellicott is 0-5 against Buena Vista since April of 2015 but things could change on Saturday. The Thunderhawks will welcome the Demons at 12:00 p.m. Ellicott has given up an average of 12.7 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Ellicott lost 27-2 to Colorado Springs Christian on Monday. The Thunderhawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Buena Vista, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They put the hurt on Platte Canyon with a sharp 11-1 win on Wednesday. The Demons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by nine runs or more this season.

Julian Lopez-Olsen was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He is becoming a predictor of Buena Vista's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 4-1 (and 4-10 when he doesn't). Lopez-Olsen was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Reed Lundy, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Elio Ynfante was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

Buena Vista always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .655. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Platte Canyon only posted an OBP of .286.

Ellicott's loss dropped their record down to 4-14-1. As for Buena Vista, their victory bumped their record up to 8-11.

Ellicott might still be hurting after the 12-3 defeat they got from Buena Vista in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Thunderhawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
