Basketball Recap: Alyssa Murphy's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Corydon Central over Evansville Central

Corydon Central and Evansville Central squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Corydon Central had to settle for second. They took a 65-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Evansville Central Bears. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 53-42 back in November of 2024.

Corydon Central's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alyssa Murphy, who posted 17 points and four steals. Murphy is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Josie Vaughn, who almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Corydon Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in November of 2024.

It was another big night for Madalynn Shirley, who dropped a double-double with 33 points and 12 boards for Evansville Central. Evansville Central is 22-2 when Shirley posts eight or more rebounds, but 1-2 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivya Hile, who went 5-for-8 on her way to 16 points and eight boards.

Corydon Central's defeat dropped their record down to 20-6. As for Evansville Central, they pushed their record up to 23-4 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home.

Corydon Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Evansville Central, they will challenge Greensburg at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Greensburg will roll in looking for their 25th straight win, something Evansville Central surely won't give up without a fight.
