The Sebastian River Sharks will take on the Vero Beach Indians at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Sebastian River's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Heritage with a sharp 17-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Sharks in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won five in a row.
Kiera Carow made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). What's more, she gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Rily Biggers was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Layla McKinney, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
Sebastian River kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Vero Beach, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Jensen Beach on Friday as Vero Beach made off with a 10-3 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Indians considering their two-run performance the matchup before.
Like Sebastian River, Vero Beach also got a great game from a two-way player: Gabrielle Espich. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Espich was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. That stolen base was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kylie Williams, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Trinity Bishop was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Vero Beach now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Sebastian River, their win bumped their record up to 5-3.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Sebastian River has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.5 hits per game. However, it's not like Vero Beach struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.7 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Sebastian River came out on top in a nail-biter against Vero Beach when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-2. Will Sebastian River repeat their success, or does Vero Beach have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
