Basketball Game Preview: Shawnee Golden Eagles vs. Eastern Eagles

Shawnee hasn't had much luck against Eastern recently, but that could start to change on Monday. It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Golden Eagles take on the Eagles at 7:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 80-49, which was the final score in Shawnee's tilt against DuPont Manual on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Golden Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 204th, while the Crimsons are ranked tenth).

Meanwhile, Eastern was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 76-70 to Ballard. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Wednesday (56), the Eagles still had to take the loss.

Eastern's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 12-15. As for Shawnee, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 7-15.

Shawnee suffered a grim 67-47 defeat to Eastern in their previous meeting back in February of 2019. Can Shawnee avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
