They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 42-40 victory over the Kennesaw Mountain Mustangs on Tuesday. The win was some much needed relief for the Lions as it spelled an end to their ten-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Despite the defeat, Kennesaw Mountain saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Nya Ford dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 boards. Those 13 boards set a new season-high mark for Ford. The team also got some help courtesy of Mfreke Johnson, who posted 12 points along with six boards and three blocks.
Lithia Springs' first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-7. As for Kennesaw Mountain, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lithia Springs and Heard County will compete for holiday cheer at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Kennesaw Mountain will take on Dunwoody in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
