Recap: Catalina Foothills Falcons vs. Canyon del Oro Dorados

The Catalina Foothills Falcons came tearing into Wednesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past Canyon del Oro with points to spare, taking the game 54-37. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Catalina Foothills also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.

Leading Catalina Foothills to victory were Clara-Mae Hrouch and Kayanna Chief. Hrouch scored 21 points, while Chief scored 19 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Hrouch has scored at least a third of Catalina Foothills' points. Alessandra Egginton was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Canyon del Oro's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sloane Kinlacheeny, who scored 13 points along with five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Halie Fuller, who scored seven points along with 12 rebounds and five blocks.

Catalina Foothills' win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-9. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.5 points per game. As for Canyon del Oro, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-13.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Catalina Foothills will take on Tucson High Magnet School at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Tucson High Magnet School is ranked 93rd, while Catalina Foothills is ranked 74th). Canyon del Oro won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Flowing Wells at 7:00 p.m. on January 18th. Hopefully Flowing Wells focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 last Tuesday.
