Cox and Salem are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The Falcons will welcome the Sundevils at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cox is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Cox's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Tallwood as they made off with an 11-0 victory. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Lindsey Baber and Daisy Kriz did most of the damage at the plate: Baber scored three runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-2, while Kriz went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. What's more, Baber posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Lyric Alfier, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Salem, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Ocean Lakes on Wednesday, sneaking past 1-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Sundevils have posted since May 9, 2024.
Not much got past Lauren Burchuk, who gave up just three hits to keep Ocean Lakes off the board. Burchuk has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Salem's victory was truly a team effort as two different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Madison Twiford, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Salem's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Cox, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.
Cox couldn't quite get it done against Salem when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 7-4. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
