Basketball Recap: Buckeye Hawks vs. Kofa Kings
The Buckeye Hawks waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with seven straight wins but they left with eight. They breezed by Kofa at home to the tune of 65-31. Buckeye has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matchups by 30 points or more this season.
Buckeye's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kiria Avila escarcega, who scored 15 points along with seven assists and six steals. Avila escarcega hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Amayah Leyva was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with two steals.
Several Kings players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Irene Martinez, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Shantal Montiel, who scored six points along with two steals and two blocks.
Buckeye is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. As for Kofa, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-11.
Buckeye will head out on the road to face off against the Roughriders at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Youngker focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 34 on Friday. As for Kofa, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on January 25th. Independence is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
