Softball Recap: Watkins Glen/Odessa-Montour Picks Up Eighth Consecutive Win

Watkins Glen/Odessa-Montour waltzed into their matchup on Friday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Edison Spartans. This was a revenge game for the Storm: when they faced off against the Spartans back in April, they had to take a 7-6 loss.

Paige Ells made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one double.

In other batting news, Amy Field was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Brianna Hatch was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Watkins Glen/Odessa-Montour pushed their record up to 11-1 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Edison, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 10-2.

Looking ahead, Watkins Glen/Odessa-Montour will take on Notre Dame at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Edison, they will be taking part in a tournament against Ardsley at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Panthers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so the Spartans' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
