Softball Recap: Greenback Takes a Loss

Greenback fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Oakdale on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 5-4. The Cherokees have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Kendi Brooks spent all 9.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Greenback saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addison Brown, who went 3-for-5 with one RBI. Another was Karli Hammontree, who went 3-for-5 with one run.

Greenback's defeat dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Oakdale, their win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-4.

Looking ahead, Greenback is taking a road trip to face off against North Greene at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Huskies will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something the Cherokees surely won't give up without a fight. Oakdale has already played their next game (against Hancock County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
