Preview: Christ Chapel Academy vs. Wakefield School Fighting Owls
Christ Chapel Academy on the road again on Friday and play against the Wakefield School Fighting Owls at 4:00 p.m. on January 19th.
Last Friday, Christ Chapel Academy came up short against Chelsea Academy and fell 58-45.
Zaria Gaskins put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored 28 points along with nine steals and five assists. She hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Dasia Smith, who scored five points along with 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Wakefield School put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They strolled past Foxcroft with points to spare, taking the game 27-12. Despite the win, that was the fewest points Wakefield School has scored all year.
Wakefield School's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ceci Turner, who scored seven points along with ten steals. Turner is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. Aya Mason was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven rebounds and five blocks.
Christ Chapel Academy's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-3. As for Wakefield School, they pushed their record up to 9-0 with that victory, which was their eighth straight on the road.
Friday's match is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Christ Chapel Academy have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 31.9 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Wakefield School, though, as they've been averaging only 27 rebounds per game. Given Christ Chapel Academy's sizeable advantage in that area, Wakefield School will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything went Christ Chapel Academy's way against Wakefield School when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as Christ Chapel Academy made off with a 51-26 win.
