Littleton hasn't had much luck against D'Evelyn recently, but that could start to change on Friday. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Littleton Lions challenge the D'Evelyn Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
On Wednesday, Littleton didn't have too much trouble with Conifer as they won 57-40. The Lions pushed the score to 48-28 by the end of the third, a deficit the Lobos cut but never quite recovered from.
Littleton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Emma Bird, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 17 boards. Vicky Whitney was another key player, putting up eight points and 14 rebounds.
Meanwhile, D'Evelyn put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They skirted past Evergreen 55-53. Given the Jaguars' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while the Cougars are ranked 137th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
D'Evelyn found their leader in sophomore Colleen Monahan, who went 6 for 8 from beyond the arc en route to 28 points and six boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Monahan has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Lyla Nagy, who posted nine points and four steals.
D'Evelyn's win was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-0. As for Littleton, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-8.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Littleton has been crashing the rebounds this season, having averaged 35.7 boards per game. However, it's not like D'Evelyn struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.1 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Littleton came up short against D'Evelyn when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 53-43. Can Littleton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
