Baseball Recap: Manteca Has No Trouble Against Rio Americano

It's playoff time, and Manteca had no trouble coming through when it counted. They were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Rio Americano Raiders on Wednesday. The Buffaloes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.

Manteca got a great performance from Jeremy Cross as he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. Cross has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in 12 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Brody Carabello was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Nate Slikker, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one double.

Manteca has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Rio Americano, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 17-12.

Looking ahead, Manteca will square off against West Park at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Buffaloes' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 11.6 runs per game this season. Rio Americano does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
