Baseball Recap: Randolph Southern Starts off Right with Win over Seton Catholic

Randolph Southern took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Seton Catholic Cardinals as they made off with a 14-8 win. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Rebels also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Bryson Grimes made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out 13 batters over 4.1 innings while giving up four earned runs off only two hits. Those 13 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Randolph Southern let Jackson Wolfal and Peyton Melton run wild. Wolfal scored three runs and stole six bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Melton scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases Melton has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Trenton Jeffries, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Randolph Southern always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .615. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Seton Catholic only posted an OBP of .394.

Looking ahead, Randolph Southern is packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will take on Union County at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Seton Catholic, they have already played their next matchup, a 17-0 victory against Purdue Broad Ripple on the 3rd.
