Basketball Game Preview: Pungo Christian Academy Raiders vs. Lawrence Academy Warriors

Pungo Christian Academy and Lawrence Academy are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2022, but not for long. The Pungo Christian Academy Raiders will face off against the Lawrence Academy Warriors at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Thursday, Pungo Christian Academy strolled past Northeast Academy with points to spare, taking the game 67-48. The Raiders pushed the score to 53-31 by the end of the third, a deficit the Eagles cut but never quite recovered from.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Lawrence Academy's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 68-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ridgecroft.

Pungo Christian Academy will have to contain Nike Wiggins as he made an impact in Lawrence Academy's last game. He went 13 of 25 on his way to 34 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Wiggins' evening made it eight games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Carter Hoggard was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 14 boards.

Even though they lost, Lawrence Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive matches.

Pungo Christian Academy's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-11. As for Lawrence Academy, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 7-8.

Pungo Christian Academy and Lawrence Academy were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, but Pungo Christian Academy came up empty-handed after a 64-63 defeat. Can Pungo Christian Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
