Softball Recap: Thursday's Loss Ends Kennedy's Winning Streak

Kennedy dropped their record down to 11-8 on Thursday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Sierra Canyon Trailblazers by a score of 8-7. The Cougars were not able to make up for their defeat to the Trailblazers from their previous meeting back in March of 2024.

Sofia Melgoza stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Alina Ortiz, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

As for Sierra Canyon, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since April 22, 2024.

On Sierra Canyon's side, Nina Peyton-Johnson was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Nylah Melendez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run.

Kennedy didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 12-7 victory against Poly on the 2nd. As for Sierra Canyon, they will take on Louisville at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. The Trailblazers are facing the Royals at the right time seeing as the Royals are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
