Baseball Recap: Lordsburg Sets Scoring Season-High Against Capitan

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lordsburg). They blew past the Capitan Tigers 32-18 on Thursday. This was payback for the Mavericks, who suffered a 25-11 loss the last time these two teams met.

Victor Valdez was a standout: he got on base in all six of his plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Justin Platz, who got on base in four of his six plate appearances with four runs and three RBI.

Lordsburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for Lordsburg and bumps their season record up to 6-5. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Capitan and 4-10 Mescalero Apache. As for Capitan, their defeat was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-10.

Coming up, Lordsburg will face off against Mesilla Valley Christian School at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Capitan, they will take on Mescalero Apache at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
