Basketball Game Preview: Mission Oak Hawks vs. Lompoc Braves

The Mission Oak Hawks will head out to square off against the Lompoc Braves at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Mission Oak is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Dinuba on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Mission Oak lost 55-35 to Dinuba. The Hawks were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 27-7.

Mission Oak's loss came about despite a quality game from Braelyn Serpa, who posted 14 points and three steals. Serpa is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Miya Centeno, who earned eight steals.

Even though they lost, Mission Oak smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.

Meanwhile, Lompoc was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They took a 50-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of San Luis Obispo. While losing is never fun, the Braves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 454th, while the Tigers are ranked 103rd).

Mission Oak will need to focus on slowing down Tara Terrones, one of several Lompoc players who made an impact when they last played. She had 11 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Grace Baird, who put up ten points and six rebounds.

Mission Oak's record is now 13-15. As for Lompoc, their record now sits at 12-15.
