Calhoun City took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They walked away with a 68-61 win over Okolona. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 79th, while the Chieftains are ranked 212th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, J.Z. George sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 45-43 victory over Ethel last Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Jaguars.

Calhoun City pushed their record up to 11-2 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.2 points per game. As for J.Z. George, their victory bumped their record up to 4-5.
