Baseball Recap: Elbert Gets the Win

While Elbert's win against Kiowa wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bulldogs had just enough and edged out the Indians 8-6. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Indians: they've now won seven in a row.

Steven Smith made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off four hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Matt Dooley, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Grant Smith, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Elbert's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Kiowa, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 4-6.

Looking ahead, Elbert will take on Simla at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Kiowa will be paying especially close attention to the Bulldogs' match: after the Bulldogs faces off against Calhan, they'll take on Kiowa again at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
