Preview: Gaston Day Spartans vs. Westchester Country Day Wildcats
Gaston Day is 9-1 against Westchester Country Day since December of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Gaston Day Spartans will be home for the holidays to greet the Westchester Country Day Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. Gaston Day will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak (dating back to last season) alive.
Gaston Day pushed their score all the way to 69 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 81-69 hit to the loss column at the hands of Concord Academy. Gaston Day has not had much luck with Concord Academy recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Despite the loss, Gaston Day saw an underclassman step up: Deshawn Coulter scored 26 points. Coulter set a new season high mark in points with 26. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Fields, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, Westchester Country Day came up short against Calvary Day School on Friday and fell 62-53. While losing is never fun, Westchester Country Day can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 353rd, while Calvary Day School is ranked 161st).
Gaston Day's defeat dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Westchester Country Day, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Gaston Day against Westchester Country Day when the teams last played back in December of 2022 as the squad secured a 67-40 win.
