Flag Football Recap: Maya Chavez and Gracy Ruiz Pace Marina Defense

Marina lost against Pacific Collegiate back in September and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Mariners lost 33-12 to the Pumas. The Mariners have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Marina lost, don't look at Esmeralda Torres. Despite the final result, she rushed for 82 yards and one TD on only six carries. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 55 yards. Gracy Ruiz made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Marina didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Maya Chavez and Ruiz. Ruiz got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Marina's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Pacific Collegiate, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-1.

Coming up, Marina will face off against Rancho San Juan at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Pacific Collegiate, they have already played their next game, a 7-6 loss against Harbor on the 10th.
