Basketball Recap: North Port Drops Highest Score of Season Against Desoto County

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask North Port). They walked away with a 66-53 victory over the DeSoto County Bulldogs on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Despite the loss, DeSoto County had strong showings from Marlon Taylor, who posted 16 points, and Azir Blanding, who had nine points and three blocks. That's the most points Taylor has posted since back in November of 2024. Jordan Demond was another key player, putting up seven points.

With the victory, North Port broke their seven-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-15. As for DeSoto County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North Port will venture away from home to challenge Imagine School at North Port at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Imagine School at North Port is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.6 points per game this season. As for DeSoto County, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Bayshore at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. DeSoto County is facing Bayshore at the right time seeing as Bayshore is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
