Softball Recap: Garfield Boilermakers vs. Hasbrouck Heights Aviators
Garfield had lost nine straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 1-8 to make it ten. They lost 15-0 to the Hasbrouck Heights Aviators. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Aviators this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 on April 4th.
As for Hasbrouck Heights, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season. Considering they have won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
For Hasbrouck Heights' part, the result came thanks to Katelin Cowan's shutout, as she gave up just a hit.
At the plate, Daniele Giresi was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted since April 5th. Mackenzie Riordan was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Garfield will venture away from home to challenge Cresskill at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hasbrouck Heights, they will challenge Lyndhurst at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Aviators are facing the Golden Bears at the right time seeing as the Golden Bears are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
