Softball Game Preview: South Laurel Cardinals vs. Greenup County Musketeers

The South Laurel Cardinals will square off against the Greenup County Musketeers at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (South Laurel 3, Greenup County 0.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.

South Laurel fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Hancock County on Sunday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Hornets by a score of 4-3. The match marked the Cardinals' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Kenzie Williams spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Bailey Frazier made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. Another player making a difference was Addison Baker, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Greenup County put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 5-1 victory over South Oldham.

South Laurel's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Greenup County, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-0.

South Laurel took their victory against Greenup County in their previous meeting back in April of 2018 by a conclusive 9-1. Will South Laurel repeat their success, or does Greenup County has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
