Football Game Preview: Bartram Trail Bears vs. Ponte Vedra Sharks

The Bartram Trail Bears will square off against the Ponte Vedra Sharks at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Bartram Trail comes in on ten and Ponte Vedra on 12.

Bartram Trail is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They strolled past Middleburg with points to spare, taking the game 27-13. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 68th, while the Broncos are ranked 208th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Bartram Trail's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kaila Pierce, who threw for 238 yards and three touchdowns. Pierce has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last three times she's played. Layla Davis was in the mix as well, providing Bartram Trail with two scores.

Yulee typically has all the answers at home, but last Monday Ponte Vedra proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top against the Hornets by a score of 14-7.

Ponte Vedra found their leader in sophomore Izzy Murray, who threw for 190 yards and one TD, and also punched in one touchdown on the ground.

Ponte Vedra didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Murray and Julia Conroy.

Ponte Vedra's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 6.6 points on average over those games. As for Bartram Trail, their record is now 12-4.

Bartram Trail came up short against Ponte Vedra in their previous matchup back in March, falling 18-7. Can the Bears avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
