Basketball Recap: Mary Grace Cleek's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Trinity Christian Academy over Dyer County

If Trinity Christian Academy was feeling good fresh off their 67-38 takedown of Kenwood on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Trinity Christian Academy Lions took a 63-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Dyer County Choctaws. The Lions' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Trinity Christian Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mary Grace Cleek, who went 5 for 8 on her way to 10 points. What's more, Cleek also racked up two blocks, the most she's had since back in January. Mallory Arnold was another key player, putting up eight points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Trinity Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Trinity Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Dyer County, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.

Trinity Christian Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 55-44 win against Northeast on the 21st. After both having extra time off, Dyer County and Westview will shake off the cobwebs and face off against one another at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Dyer County knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten games -- so hopefully Westview likes a good challenge.
