Saint Mary's came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 8-2 to Marin Catholic.
Bryce Gilmore was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for El Cerrito, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over Washington on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Gauchos, who have now won six matches by eight runs or more so far this season.
Logan Ferguson made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Ferguson was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
In other pitching news, William Reddall looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, El Cerrito let Reggie Burnham and Solomon McCormick run wild. Burnham went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while McCormick went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most RBI Burnham has posted since back in March. Jaxon Coles was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
El Cerrito hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Washington struck out eight times.
El Cerrito's victory bumped their record up to 13-7. As for Saint Mary's, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season.
