Softball Preview: East Dubuque Warriors vs. Fulton Steamers
East Dubuque has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against the Fulton Steamers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Tuesday, East Dubuque made easy work of Southwestern and carried off a 12-2 victory.
Curin Oberman made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Oberman was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Katie Welp, who fired off two home runs, four runs, and two stolen bases while going 3-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now stolen at least one in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabel Stewart, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Fulton came tearing into Wednesday's match with 15 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.7 runs) and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Boilermakers with a sharp 11-3 win.
East Dubuque pushed their record up to 7-1 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Fulton, their win bumped their record up to 18-4.
