Basketball Recap: Winnetonka Comes Up Short

Winnetonka was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 12th straight loss. They took a blow against the Kearney Bulldogs, falling 63-23. While losing is never fun, the Griffins can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 435th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 215th).

Brooke Paalhar was nothing short of spectacular for Kearney: she dropped a double-double with 14 points and 12 assists. Those 12 assists gave Paalhar a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kennedi Casey, who went 5-for-11 on her way to 12 points and eight rebounds.

Winnetonka's defeat dropped their record down to 3-17. As for Kearney, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-12.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Winnetonka will square off against Smithville at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Smithville will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Winnetonka surely won't give up without a fight. As for Kearney, they will face off against Raytown South at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
