Preview: Maritime Academy Charter Seadogs vs. Girard College Cavaliers
The Maritime Academy Charter Seadogs will head out on the road to square off against the Girard College Cavaliers at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Maritime Academy Charter is hoping to put an end to a nine-game streak of away losses.
Last Wednesday, Maritime Academy Charter ended up a good deal behind Simon Gratz and lost 56-42. While losing is never fun, Maritime Academy Charter can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 637th, while Simon Gratz is ranked 220th).
Despite their loss, Maritime Academy Charter saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jaseer Mann, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and two steals, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Jadin Aviles, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Maritime Academy Charter struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They are winless (0-3) when they can't control their own glass like that.
Meanwhile, Girard College was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Saturday as they fell 55-49 to Academy Park.
Maritime Academy Charter's record now sits at 2-11. Girard College's record is now 6-9.
Maritime Academy Charter beat Girard College 64-53 in their previous meeting back in December of 2022. Does Maritime Academy Charter have another victory up their sleeve, or will Girard College turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
