Basketball Recap: Chetopa Takes a Loss

If Chetopa was feeling good fresh off their 40-16 takedown of Southern Coffey County last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Chetopa Hornets were beaten by the Marmaton Valley Wildcats 62-24 on Tuesday. The loss continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now lost three in a row.

Despite the loss, Chetopa still got an impressive performance from Lawrence Holt, who posted 13 points and four steals. That was a full 54.2% of Chetopa's points, marking the ninth time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Lawellin, who had five points.

Chetopa's defeat dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Marmaton Valley, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-4.

Chetopa didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 50-40 loss against Yates Center on the 31st. Marmaton Valley has also already played their next contest, a 65-54 defeat against Oswego on the 31st.
