Javy Carrera made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run.
In other batting news, Boone Grove let Seth Pitcock and Caleb Thomas run wild. Pitcock went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Thomas went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That stolen base was Thomas' first of the season. Maxwell Truby was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Meanwhile, Hebron got the win against Lake Station Edison on Saturday by a conclusive 11-4. That's two games straight that the Hawks have won by exactly seven runs.
Carter Riley and Luke Charpentier did most of the damage at the plate: Riley got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Charpentier went 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. Those three runs gave Charpentier a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Marshall Hall, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Hebron was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lake Station Edison only posted a batting average of .182.
Hebron pushed their record up to 16-10-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Boone Grove, their victory bumped their record up to 22-5.
Everything went Boone Grove's way against Hebron in their previous matchup back in April, as Boone Grove made off with a 12-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolves since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
