Game recap: Cromwell High School Football Team tops Valley Regional/Old Lyme

DEEP RIVER, Conn. - Cromwell (Conn.) saw its 14-point lead dwindle to three, but still managed to hang on and defeat Valley Regional/Old Lyme (Deep River, Conn.) 20-17 on Saturday.

The Panthers were up 20-6 at the half after taking the lead on a passing touchdown in the second quarter.

Cromwell saw its 14-point halftime lead fall to three entering the fourth.

CHS went into the matchup giving up only 16.2 points per game. The 17 points that the Warriors ended with were well below their average of 28.5 coming into the game.

The victory will ease some of the sting of the Panthers' close 24-21 loss to Valley Regional/Old Lyme last season.



The loss comes after Valley Regional/Old Lyme defeated Lewis Mills 41-7 last week. With the win Cromwell extended its winning streak to three games.

Valley Regional/Old Lyme (5-4) will play a Pequot - Sassacus game against East Hampton/Vinal RVT next week, while Cromwell (8-2) will take on Coginchaug Regional also in a Pequot - Sassacus game.
