Football Game Preview: Rowe Warriors vs. Rio Grande City Rattlers

Rowe has gone a perfect 3-0 against Rio Grande City recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. After each having a week off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Rowe is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Juarez-Lincoln: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Warriors blew the Huskies out of the water with a 49-3 final score. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Huskies recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Jose Jimenez and Iban Ramirez. Jimenez rushed for 137 yards and one TD on only five carries while Ramirez rushed for 107 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only ten carries. Jimenez got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 80 yards.

Rowe was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 327 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Rowe's defense and their six sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as six different players picked up one apiece. They got some further help from Christian De Leon: he picked up a sack and made 13 total tackles.

Meanwhile, Rio Grande City is still winless after their game against Palmview last Friday, but the team can take solace in the fact it was the closest they've come to winning. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 43-41 heartbreaker at the hands of the Lobos. On the bright side, the 41- point performance marked the Rattlers' highest-scoring matchup to date.

Rio Grande City's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Rowe, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Rowe took their win against Rio Grande City when the teams last played back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 27-7 score. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rattlers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
